I'm looking for unique ideas that you all have in place, or new ideas, to support campus faculty. Primarily focused on supporting teachers, but campus administrative staff as well. How can we support campus faculty during this challenging time? Looking for ideas outside of classroom grants and continuing ed scholarships. For example, we have a program called Teacher Wish, where we fund a small dollar amount to be used for consumable classroom supplies. I know some of you do a similar program.
Anxious for some input. Thanks.
We are also looking for additional ways to support our staff. We have our yearly strategic planning meeting July 28 and I hope to have more ideas after that. I believe this year will look very different for our fundraising and our budget. We want to stick to our purpose and mission but also branch out a little to support during this time, so that makes it tough.
We have discussed a type of SOS Grant program where they can request and receive (and with approval) an amount of up to $250 for immediate classroom or technology needs.
One of my favorite programs is our First Year Teacher Initiative. We offer $150 to each "brand new" zero year teacher to use in outfitting their new classroom. We present it at our new staff orientation and make a big splash with our newest employees. Our board wanted to offer a reimbursement to "make sure they spent it on appropriate items" but I think others who have adopted this program just give them cash. Heaven knows they will spend more than $150 out of pocket during their careers!
I have attached a photo from last year. We'll present to this year's group on Monday (wearing masks, of course!).
